There are numerous parks and gardens throughout Devon for keen gardeners and nature lovers to explore.

Devon’s great old estates can be explored on foot or by bike. Within a twenty- mile radius of Modbury some the most delightful parks and gardens can be found. www.nationaltrust.org.uk will provide you with all the information needed for you to plan your trip.

Overbeck’s – a subtropical garden on the cliffs above Salcombe, an Edwardian villa once used as a convalescent hospital.

Greenway – the Devonshire home of crime-writer Agatha Christie, on the banks of the River Dart. It holds the family collection of the famous author.

The National Gardens Scheme www.ngs,org.uk in Devon has 157 private gardens open to visit throughout the year. There are six gardens close to Modbury to visit. The best advice is to visit the website to find opening times and other details. The Modbury TIC has an informative, free brochure.

Dartington Garden Tours

The gardens at Dartington Hall are world class Grade II listed and are open, free of charge, all year round. Although the history of the gardens goes back several hundred years, it was not until Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst arrived in 1925 that its true potential was realised.

Come and join the deer keepers at Dartington for a tour of the ancient deer park and meet the deer! Spend an hour learning all about deer and their place in the British countryside, the bio-diversity of their habitat – and get up close to the herd.
